Newcastle may have earned a comfortable 3-0 victory over Hull City in today’s early kick-off, but Magpies skipper Fabricio Coloccini did his best to make things a little more interesting.

The centre-back nearly scored one of the most outrageous goals of the season (though would still have been pipped by Sunderland’s Santiago Vergini), as he sliced a volleyed clearance from the goal-line back over his goalkeeper’s head towards goal.

Had it not been for the intervention of Vurnon Anita, Coloccini would either have a spectacular own goal to his name, or Nikica Jelavic would have been presented with the easiest goal of his career.
