Sorry parents, but teenagers are more grumpy today than they’ve ever been – thanks to smartphones.

Youngsters who indulge in late-night binges are more likely to develop depression and sleep deprivation, new research shows.

Scientists at the University of Basel in Switzerland asked more than 300 teenagers about their nighttime phone routine.

Only 17 per cent of those asked said they switch off their phone or put it on silent when they go to bed.
